This was a true clash of the titans at the swatch TTR 6 star Burton European Open in Laax Thursday, where the top TTR snowboarders fought it out on the slopesstykle course in hpe of rising up the world rankings, 1000 TTR ranking points and part of the total prize fund of $125,000 USD were up for the takings and it was Danny Davis (USA) who took the incentive to step it up and win his first 6 star event.
Danny davis won him self first place which moved him up into World No.18 on the swatch TTR world Ranking list. In second came Peetu Piiroinmen (FIN)m, whose performance has pushed him into Swatch TTR world no.3 Also, the women were hungry to close the gap on TTR tour leader, Jamie Anderson. Lisa Wiik (NOR) took out top honours in the girls competition which moved her onto World No.14 whilist the local rider from films, Sina Candrian (SUI) came second and jumped into the TTR world No.2 in third came Kjerdti Oestgaard Buaas from Norway.
All the riders for the 10th Brithday of the Burton European Open, showed off just how far snowboarding has progressed over the last ten years. All them using the new impressive course to its full potential, busting out enormous tricks and and technical rail combos. Throughout the day, Lisa Wiik stomped a huge Mctwist, BS 5s and FS 3s, which snuck her in a cut above the rest.
Sina Candrian was the only girl into the contest who landed a FS 9 which helped her come in second. Kjersti Buaas (NOR) rounded out the Top 3 with stylish Alley Oops, FS 3s and an FS 7 mute.
As the women’s competition hotted up over in the men’s competition, the Euro and U.S riders were going head to head all day. In a tight final, Danny Davis eventually claimed the slopestyle title with styled out combos comprised of technical rail tricks, Swatch BS 9s, FS 10s and cab 9s.
Chas Guildemond (USA) managed to hold onto his TTR four lead as Peety Piromen ascended into world No.3, right behind Janne Korpi (FIN). French Candians Charles Reid and Sebastian Toutant are sitting right behind in world No. 4 and 5. Tim Humphreys has now moved into the Swatch TTR Top 10, whilst last Year’s Tour Champion Kevin Pearce, has moved up one spot into Swatch TTR No.9.
Sina Candrain who moved into Swatch TTR world no.2, as the event went on we saw a number of female riders charging up the rankings, such as 05/06 tour champion, Cheryl Maas (NED) whio is now back in the Swatch TTR top 5. Newcomer Sarka Pancochova is another rider who has hit her stride, advancing through to finals of the competition and moving into the world No.9.
The halfpipe finals are guaranteed to amplify the intensity of the races for the swatch TTR Tour leads. Piiroinen will most probably move into World No.4 and Aguirre (USA) has the chance to go for the TTR top 10
For the women, Clark (USA) and Wiik are fighting for a better spot in the TTR Top 10 and Pancochova could potentially move into the TTR top – the race is on.
