After having completed in only a handful of rally events. BMX Legend Dave Mirra has won his first rally race, the 2009 team O’Neil rally, at the wheel of his 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car.

Dave Mirra dominated the New Hampshire based snow rally by setting fastest time on all but one of the events eight stages and finishing with a lead of fifty seconds. The wins comes just over one year after Dave Mirra began his burgeoning rally career that has since seen him to be named the 2008 Rally America Rookie of the year as well as earn a Bronze medal at last summer’s X Games 14 Rally Car Racing event.

Dave Mirra’s rally program will expand in 2009 with increased support from Subrau of America and Monster Energy that will see him join Subaru Rally Team USA drivers Ken Block and Travis Pastrana as all nine rounds of the 2009 Rally America national Championship as wall as X Games 15

Dave Mirra will complete in the new super production class and will debut a 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI early in the race season.

The Rip curl MP Classic will again he held this year in reverence to Queensland icon and undisputed ‘King of Kirra’ Michael Peterson ‘MP’ this weekend on January the 31 to February 1st.

The event will run for its eight consecutive year and has grown to be the most prestigious regional event in Queensland. For the first time since events conception in February 2002, the MP Classic is part of the Queensland Championship circuit (QCC). The MP Classic is the second event of a total of five on the QCC and is the highest rated competition.

Shaun Gossman (Burleigh heads, QLD) who won the MP Classic for three consecutive years, from 2003 to 2005, he has his sights set firmly on another title.Shaun Gossman recently claimed first place in the event number one of the QCC at Currumbin Alley (QLD) and is keen to clinch the Queensland Championship trophy.

The full list of competitors is yet to be confirmed, but those who have already put their name down include Rip Curl’s 2008 ASP Australasia Pro Junior Champion Stuart Kennedy, former world tour surfer Nathan Hedhe and Rip Curl free surfer Dean Brady.
In celebration of the event, sponsor Air Asia X is giving away 2 international airfares to the winner of the Rip Curl MP Classic. On top of this, Air Asia X is giving the general public the chance to win a trip for two to Asia. All spectators are invited to enter the competition and need to sign-up with the beach Marshall for their chance to win the prize. The winner will need to be on the beach when their name is drawn.

British snowboarder Jenny Jones has become the first British woman to win a gold medal at the Prestigious X Games.

Slope Style is where riders head down a course which is mixed with rails, bumps and jumps and are judged on the difficulty and execution of the tricks.

Jenny Jones has beaten Canadian Spencer O’Brien after a daring manoeuvre late in her second run.

Jenny said her first run was sketchy, and her second run she cleaned it up, so it looked better and that she felt happy with the run, with the last jump, of an 80ft front side 720.

She was so pleased to win and suddenly the emotions went crazy and k had to try hard not to cry. It means so much to her to win an x games medal and to win gold is the icing on the cake for her!

The men’s slope style was won by American Shaun White, who now has eight Winter X Gold’s to his name.

The X Games are held annually and are an invitation – only event for the worlds top winter sport athletes and are as highly regarded as the winter Olympics.

Jenny Jones is one of Britain’s top snowboarders but has never featured in the winter Olympics because her favoured event, the slope style, is not included.

Reigning world /AMA super cross champion Chad Reed has maintained his Championship lead after enduring another tough race at the fourth round of the monster energy AMA super cross where he finished second.

After taking the holeshot and winning his heat race, Chad Reed also looked to have the main- event holeshot until he was pushed wide during the chaotic first turn forcing him to drop outside the top ten.

Chad Reed completed the opening lap in eight place then began his charge forwards, by lap five he was up into forth place and on lap 13 he secured third. A mistake by Ryan Villopoto coming into the last turn on the same lap elevated the rock star/Makita/Suzuki rider to second.

While Chad Reed once again set the fastest lap times of the race he was unable to catch rival James Stewart, but still commands a nine point lead in the 17 round championship.

The firth round of the monster energy AMA super cross series, an FIM world championship, will be held on Saturday 31st of January at San Francisco’s AT&T park.

The Swiss skier Daniel Albrecht has been placed in an induced coma after crashing in down hill training for the world cup in Kitzbuehel, Austria.

The super – combined world champion Albrecht lost control on the Streif course after becoming air bourne for about 40 metres and landed on his back.

He lost consciousness and received medical attention for 20 minutes on the slopes before being airlifted to hospital.

The 25 year old suffered bleeding on the brain and a lung contusion.

Daniel Albrecht, who is one of the Swiss team most talented skiers, was transferred to the clinic of Innsbuck where he is to be kept in a coma for at least another 24 hours to regulate the pressure on his brain.

Daniel Albrecht, currently eighth in the world cup standings with two GS wins this season, was preparing for this weekend’s Hahnenkamm races on the notoriously demanding Streif course.

After a successful debut year, the Ultimate Boarder returns to 2009. It’s one of the biggest surf, snow and skate competitions and will be taking place from April 4th – 11th, 2009.

The triathlon of a new generation, the Ultimate boarder is a one week competition to find the athlete who can conquer the art of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. The competition was created in response to the growing popularity of these sports, and as a way to promote healthy athletic lifestyles among young athletes in a positive and competitive environment that grooms role models and heroes for the next generation.

Bear Mountain (Big Bear CA) will host the snowboarding stage followed by Ventura country fairgrounds (Ventura CA) for the surfing and skateboarding stages.

Team San Mannel Yamaha’s James Stewart won his second consecutive monster energy AMA Super-cross race in front of 43,009 fans at Angel stadium. Rockstar / Makita Suzki’s Chad Reed moved into the AMA super-cross class points lead with a valiant come from behind race where he started in 20th and finished second, and team mate Ryan Dungey won his second consecutive Western Regional AMA super-cross Lites class race.

GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham led the AMA supercross class though turn one as he picked up the holeshot award. Rockstar / Makita Suzki’s Mike Alessi and JGMX/Yamaha/Toyota’s Josh Grant followed in second and third respectivey. Defending champion Chad Reed started in 20th place after a first turn crash and James Stewart was near the middle of the pack.

After two laps, James Stewart made his way into fourth place, and by lap six his way was in third place, by lap eight James held down second place and with monster energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto was third. Out front windham was unable to hold off James, who made the pass for the lead on lap 10.

Chad Reed, who won his heat race, went down in the first corner and was dead last when he remounted his Rockstar Makita Suzki RM-Z450 and rejoined the race.

On the notoriously hard to pass track, Chad Reed posted the fastest lap times of the race as he strategically picked off the competitors ahead of him.

As Chad Reed crossed the line to commence his final lap he was sitting third but not content to settle for the third step on the dais, he went after second placed rider Kevin Windham and passed him on the last corner of the race to claim second behind race winner James Stewart.

Dungey, who came into the race with the point lead, made his move around Reardon on lap two and set chase on Morais. At the start of lap four Dungey secured the lead and rode to victory and extended his point lead to six points. Morais finished second and his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate Jake Weimer finished third.

The Southside promotions are expanding the ever popular mini SX open in Frankston into a two series for 2009.

Round one will be held at Frankston BMX track on March the 14th with the series concluding at Stepparton BMX Track in Northern Victoria on March 27th.

Since 2006 Southside promotions, Adam Bailey, Mick Sinclair and Cam Sinclair have been running the mini SX open at Frankston BMX Track, South-East of Melbourne. The event attatacts up to 200 of the best mini bike racers in Australia to do battle for over $5000 in cash and prizes.

The event also features FMX demos by the best Australia has to offer including Crusty Demon riders cam Sinclair, Blake “bilko” Willams and Kain saul. For Blake Williams it will be his first appearance in Australia for over six months, since a knee reconstruction put him out of action. In 2009 however Blake did have some extremely strong performances on the international FMX scene, including first place at the mountain Dew action sports tour.

The combination of mini bike racing and FMX demonstrations has been a great success for Southside promotions and always provide some awesome entertainment.

This was a true clash of the titans at the swatch TTR 6 star Burton European Open in Laax Thursday, where the top TTR snowboarders fought it out on the slopesstykle course in hpe of rising up the world rankings, 1000 TTR ranking points and part of the total prize fund of $125,000 USD were up for the takings and it was Danny Davis (USA) who took the incentive to step it up and win his first 6 star event.

Danny davis won him self first place which moved him up into World No.18 on the swatch TTR world Ranking list. In second came Peetu Piiroinmen (FIN)m, whose performance has pushed him into Swatch TTR world no.3 Also, the women were hungry to close the gap on TTR tour leader, Jamie Anderson. Lisa Wiik (NOR) took out top honours in the girls competition which moved her onto World No.14 whilist the local rider from films, Sina Candrian (SUI) came second and jumped into the TTR world No.2 in third came Kjerdti Oestgaard Buaas from Norway.

All the riders for the 10th Brithday of the Burton European Open, showed off just how far snowboarding has progressed over the last ten years. All them using the new impressive course to its full potential, busting out enormous tricks and and technical rail combos. Throughout the day, Lisa Wiik stomped a huge Mctwist, BS 5s and FS 3s, which snuck her in a cut above the rest.

Sina Candrian was the only girl into the contest who landed a FS 9 which helped her come in second. Kjersti Buaas (NOR) rounded out the Top 3 with stylish Alley Oops, FS 3s and an FS 7 mute.

As the women’s competition hotted up over in the men’s competition, the Euro and U.S riders were going head to head all day. In a tight final, Danny Davis eventually claimed the slopestyle title with styled out combos comprised of technical rail tricks, Swatch BS 9s, FS 10s and cab 9s.

Chas Guildemond (USA) managed to hold onto his TTR four lead as Peety Piromen ascended into world No.3, right behind Janne Korpi (FIN). French Candians Charles Reid and Sebastian Toutant are sitting right behind in world No. 4 and 5. Tim Humphreys has now moved into the Swatch TTR Top 10, whilst last Year’s Tour Champion Kevin Pearce, has moved up one spot into Swatch TTR No.9.

Sina Candrain who moved into Swatch TTR world no.2, as the event went on we saw a number of female riders charging up the rankings, such as 05/06 tour champion, Cheryl Maas (NED) whio is now back in the Swatch TTR top 5. Newcomer Sarka Pancochova is another rider who has hit her stride, advancing through to finals of the competition and moving into the world No.9.

The halfpipe finals are guaranteed to amplify the intensity of the races for the swatch TTR Tour leads. Piiroinen will most probably move into World No.4 and Aguirre (USA) has the chance to go for the TTR top 10

For the women, Clark (USA) and Wiik are fighting for a better spot in the TTR Top 10 and Pancochova could potentially move into the TTR top – the race is on.

the event is all about the best international young guns defying each other for the prize of qualifying for even more important competitions later on.

A lot of top international rookies have confirmed their presence, including Norwegian Staale Sandbach Dutchman Dimi de Jong, and Teddy Koo from Japan, but the question is: who is set to emerge as the new star of Snowboarding in Livigno?

Taking place from January 17 to 21, 2009 the event promises to be a one of a kind event. Awaiting the national rookie teams is a course worthy of a professional contest, with jumps up to 22m high, stairs, and breathtaking pri\es, a ticket for the waegle taengle Gang Jam 2009 in Mayherofen, six entries to the protest World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, invitations to the protest Surf camp in Hossegor and much more.
